Qantas Apologizes for Screening Inappropriate Movie on Flight

Qantas, the Australian airline, has apologized to passengers after an R-rated movie was accidentally broadcast to every in-flight entertainment screen during a flight from Sydney to Tokyo. The movie, “Daddio,” released in 2023, contains adult language, sex, and nudity, including a scene with a prosthetic penis.

The incident occurred when the crew members, unable to provide individual movie selections due to technical difficulties, chose to play a single movie for all passengers. Unfortunately, they were unaware that “Daddio” was an inappropriate choice for the mixed audience, which included families and children. The movie played for nearly an hour before it was turned off.

Qantas has expressed regret over the incident, stating that the movie was “clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight.” The airline said it has changed all screens to a family-friendly movie for the remainder of the flight, which is their standard practice when individual movie selection is not possible. Qantas is reviewing the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The incident has sparked online discussions, with some passengers expressing discomfort and others making jokes about the situation. Air New Zealand, Qantas’ competitor, seized the opportunity to boast about its in-flight entertainment options, where passengers can choose their own movies.
