Farewell to Ocean City’s Wonderland Pier

Share

Gillian’s Wonderland Pier, a landmark on the Ocean City boardwalk for 94 years, has closed its doors for good. Hundreds of visitors came to bid farewell to the iconic amusement park over the weekend. Despite the park’s scheduled closing at 6 p.m., officials kept it open an extra hour to allow guests one final goodbye.

The closure of Gillian’s Wonderland Pier marks the end of an era. Visitors shared their fond memories of the park, recalling the joy it brought to their childhoods and the excitement of riding the Ferris wheel and other attractions. Many expressed sadness at the loss of this community staple, but also gratitude for the opportunity to experience it one last time.

The future of the property is uncertain, as the owner, Eustace Mita, has less than six months to decide what’s next for the area. Some residents are hopeful that the amusement park will reopen in some capacity, with a group called “Save Wonderland” fighting to protect the pier and its iconic features. City leaders say more information about the park’s future will be available in March, leaving the community to wait and see what becomes of this beloved landmark.
