East Lyme to Receive $837K in Broadband Internet Grants

The state of Connecticut is investing $28 million in grants to expand broadband infrastructure across 88 cities and towns, including East Lyme. East Lyme will receive $837,400 to bring high-speed internet access to 53 locations within the community.

The grants are funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act’s Capital Project Fund, which aims to support universal access to affordable, resilient, and reliable broadband. Governor Ned Lamont emphasized that the expansion of broadband infrastructure will strengthen Connecticut’s towns and cities, making them more resilient and better equipped to participate in the digital world.

The grant money is being distributed through the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s ConneCTed Communities Grant Program. This initial round of funding will benefit 26 towns on the state’s Distressed Municipalities list, ensuring that underserved communities also have access to high-speed internet services.
