Share

The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) will establish a series of high-profile driverless races at the UAE’s Yas Marina Formula 1 track using cars from Japan’s Super Formula series, capable of reaching over 185mph. The first event is scheduled for April 27th, showcasing the remarkable pace of autonomous driving by bringing together the world’s top computer scientists, coders, and developers in competition. The $2.25 million prize purse will incentivize teams to make their cars faster and smarter than the opposition. The A2RL concept comes from the UAE’s Advanced Technology Research Council, with the goal of reshaping the future of mobility by combining cutting-edge AI, sensors, and computer technology. The event aims to drive advancements in autonomous technology and promote consumer acceptance, using a Dallara EAV24 chassis with a range of sensors and an on-board computer. The challenge for the teams is to program the autonomous stack to perceive the environment and control the car’s movements without any human intervention. A2RL is designed as both a motorsports series and a research and development platform to address the gap between car capabilities and driver limitations, with the ultimate goal of improving road safety.
