Airport worker arrested in airport gold heist with five others

Six people have been arrested in the multimillion-dollar gold heist at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport in 2023. Police have also issued arrest warrants for three others, alleging an “inside job” involving at least two former Air Canada employees. The stolen cargo container carried over 22 million Canadian dollars’ worth of gold bars and foreign currency. The investigation, dubbed “Project 24Karat,” involved the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and authorities believe the sophisticated organized crime ring planned to use the stolen assets to traffic firearms into Canada. Only a fraction of the stolen gold and cash has been recovered so far, making this the largest gold heist in Canadian history and one of the largest in the world.
