Hundreds of Mysterious Black Balls Wash Up on Sydney Beaches

Beachgoers in Sydney were surprised to find hundreds of mysterious black tar-like balls washing up on two popular beaches, prompting the closure of the strands. The golf-to-cricket-ball-sized spheres were spotted littering the coastline at Coogee Beach and Gordon’s Bay, an aquatic reserve.

Authorities are baffled by the origin of these peculiar objects. According to the local mayor, Dylan Parker, the balls may be “tar balls” that form when oil comes into contact with debris and water, typically the result of oil spills or seepage. However, the exact nature of the material is still unknown.

The sudden appearance of these black balls has led to the closure of the affected beaches as a precautionary measure. Lifeguards have been tasked with monitoring the situation and investigating the source of the mysterious debris. While a few seagulls were observed pecking and examining the spheres, the beaches that are usually thronged with Sydneysiders and tourists remain eerily quiet as authorities work to unravel the mystery.
