Thanksgiving Travel Forecast: Stormy Weather Ahead
As millions of Americans prepare to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, weather conditions across the country could complicate their plans. Nearly 80 million people are expected to hit the roads, rails, and skies to visit friends and family, setting a new record according to AAA.
The final week of November is expected to be turbulent, with several storms tracking coast-to-coast and bringing rain, wind, and even snow to major cities and well-traveled interstates. The weekend before Thanksgiving could see rain and mountain snow in the West, as well as a slow-moving storm in the Northeast, potentially causing delays and cancellations at airports. The busiest travel days, Tuesday and Wednesday, may also be disrupted by weather, with rain and snow showers expected across the Great Lakes and rain advancing towards the Northeast.
While the southern United States, including popular destinations like Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Atlanta, are expected to have the best travel weather, the stormy conditions in other parts of the country could still impact flights and cause disruptions to annual Thanksgiving events, such as parades, turkey trots, and outdoor gatherings. Travelers are advised to check their flight status and be prepared for potential weather-related delays and cancellations.
